I don't know if I should be posting here, as this isn't my province, but since the topic is immigration, and I'm a Friend of the Republic (which would, I'd think, make me part of your target demographic), I hope you'll pardon me:

I'll be honest, I don't find fights amusing, physical or verbal. From the outside looking in, the constant clawing on these boards is intriguing, in the same way that watching "Law & Order" is intriguing -- but I sure as heck wouldn't want to be a character in L&O.

To this observer, that fighting seems to be the raison d'etre (sp?) of the Wittenberg boards, and the Wittenberg boards seem to be Talossa. I can't help thinking that I must not be alone -- and if I'm right, then one of the things hampering new membership is the sense that immigrating to the Republic means continually baring one's throat to the wolves.

If I'm out of line, please say so.

Actually you're not too far out of line. You've very eloquently said some of what I have been feeling for a long time now...

However you need to distinguish politics from personalised fights. Politics is about debate and fighting etc etc. In politics at the end of a day trading barbs we all sit back and have a good brew and tell dirty stories to each other. And in the end we are learn something from one another.

Personalised fights are just brutal and serve no purpose other than inflating the egos of those who choose to participate. Hopefully we can learn to distinguish the two and keep the politics from getting personal.

Thanks for the view from the outside.
