Since we were 9-0 on both amendments, I thought I would change my vote to "PËR" on both amendments so that we could make it unanimous. :)

Here is the Final Draft Constitution, as voted for by you, the Talossan people. This draft will now go back to the Constitutional Committee (myself, Grubi, JKK, M-P and Michael) for tidying up, checking for loopholes, typos, etc., before it's given to the Talossan people for ratification in a secret-ballot referendum.

However, I need some feedback from the Convention before you all go home and celebrate a job well done. The Constitution as written mandates that we have a presidential election at the same time as the referendum. However, it also states that a new President must be elected every June. If we pass this constitution as written, then we have a Presidential election now, and then another one just two months later.

The Committee is authorised to change the draft as written to make it workable, so we would be able to change this so that the current Dean would act as caretaker Prez until June when we'd have a proper election. However, I didn't think we should do that without getting some indication from you, the voters, whether that would be acceptable first.

Given notice of the above, I would like to ask our provisional Secretary to start making preparations for a Constitutional ratification referendum, but hold fire on the preparations for a Presidential election until the people have made their views heard on this issue.

Thank you so much for your patience. It's been a long, slow, painful, head-bangingly frustrating journey, but I think we've all done the good work. In Venezuela, the people are so proud of their constitution that it's a best-seller in the shops. I hope that you will all feel the same about our own constitution, which is now all but completed.

The office of the President of the Republic shall become vacant on the first day of July every year. The election for a new President shall take place no earlier than a month before the office is due to fall vacant.

That should read "...on the first day of June...," not July.

    Read the whole paragraph :

The office of the President of the Republic shall become vacant on the first day of July every year. The election for a new President shall take place no earlier than a month before the office is due to fall vacant.

As such, the election DOES occur on June 1st

Why would it take place in JUNE?! I believe we agreed that it would be best for the election to occur in MAY so that we'd have the term be 1 June to 1 June every year, in honour of Independence Day.

I know, but the idea is to have an election every 3 months, on months that are multiples of 3 ( 3,6,9,12 ) or March, June, September, December. Doing that enables to have elections equally balanced around the year, and easy to remember. 3,6,9,12

With your proposal, we would have 3,5,9,12, which would mean only 2 months from the previous house election, and a full 4 months until the next one. I think this is less desirable. We should space them as equally as possible to create a rhytmic pattern.

We could of course, use 2,5,8,11 ( February, May, August, November ), but I think it is less interesting, notably because of the elections in August, where a lot of people are in vacation, and in February, the shortest month of the year. And with Thanksgiving, November ain't that great either.

With elections every 3 months, like we have now, we also are in election at the time of a season change ! It easy to remember : if we change season this month, there is an election. September is also the beginning of the school year, which is synonimous with a new beginning. Same thing with December, and the new year ( the term of Senators would be from January 1st to December 31st ! ).

The only negative point of the schedule is the Presidential election, which occurs during Independance month, but with the new president taking office the next month. Personally tough, I would fix the term to change on June 15th, with the election between June 1st and June 14th, and not on July 1st.

Do that. Chris would win the election anyway because of his outrageous and immoral use of multiple adverts.

I plan to use it in place of "immortal" in my presidential propaganda. "His name lives on immorally!"
