Jonathan Kelley | I'm not sure what April 1st is in New Zealand, but at least in the US, it's what the Romans would have called 'nefas'--not auspicious for announcing things. Most Americans will tend to think it's a hoax. People play very elabourate jokes on that day, sometimes going way too far, so everyone but very gullible or calendar-unaware people simply disbelieves any strange news item.
It would be a deadly day for a terror attack, and I hope persons of evil never figure it out. Many people would disbelieve the first reports; emergency services, resigned to the usual flood of deranged (and very stupid, in these cases) hoaxes, might be slow to react. In any case, our motives are far happier--but perhaps let's push it up to April 2.
