What would it be called then? Annexation, of course.
Ah, I see. The similar German word Annexion has a different meaning: "Besitzergreifung, insbes. die Einverleibung fremden Staatsgebiets nach Eroberung." (dtv Brockhaus, 20-Vol. lexicon, 1966). That is "Seizure, espec. the incorporation of foreign territory after conquest." Hence my misunderstanding.
