I was doing some thinking today and I worked out the bare bones of seven (!) different ways we could elect the Chamber. I'll write them up in a formal article for people to think about later. Between the current system and STV, I'm neutral. The current system encourages gang warfare and padding lists with people who really don't want to be there. But STV - or any other system where you vote for people and not parties - would mean that politics would become about personalities and individuals rather than about different ideas, programmes, strategies and manifestos. I think right now if there was some "middle ground" between the two systems I'd jump at it.
What's interesting is that the electoral reform issue is truly cross-partisan: the ZRT is split on it and so is the MRP and ex-MRP.

Well, there you go again - I can't think of any legislature in the world which is *always* in session.
