One disadvantage of panachage might be that even more than in our current system people who actually don't want to play a (leading) role in politics might get prominently elected, quasi "against their will". Same goes for write-in votes.

Thats where it gets interesting-right now, if you agree to pad out a list, and lightning strikes, you are elected against your wil. But with panachage one has the choice between all the candidates, and can, as a voter, not vote for placeholders or reluctant candidates.

The best way of making sure of not being elected remains, as always, not to run ;-)
