True, that was sloppy. Replace "fascist" with "dictator". I do understand Ben's fascination with Mussolini and Atatürk, though. They were both impressive and intriguing people. Escpecially Atatürk. An extremely capable man. I wonder what he would have gone on to do if he hadn't drunk himself to death.

although i admire mustapha kemal pasha for his work on establishment of independent, secular and democratic turkey, his ethnic policy was quite fascist (i understand fascist as someone who solves political issues by violence and physical extermination of his political opponents), even we use the french euphemism - state nationalism. if it is deadly illegal to use your mother tongue, to declare you to be different from majority culture, then there is something rotten in state of danes. being czech, i am quite sensitive to such issues, cos we have quite a long time experience with such an approach, which resulted in 17th and 18th century to almost extinction of czech nation.
practically, common turk is fine, friendly, helpful and very kind, we were travelling across the country, staying not in tourist centres for a month. but saying anything about greeks, kurds or armenians turned those peaceful people into furious warriors, who hardly new any facts besides nationalistic fairy-tales. i am quite afraid of nato member who makes parliamentary approved rides to kill ethnic "enemies" into foreign country, under loud support of other such bastards like syria or by silent support of so called western democracies...
