    > I have taken the liberty of floating the a proposal to the LOSS on behalf of the Republic, the text of which can be found here.

I like what I see, provisionally. Although I'd appreciate the Associate Minister giving us a few brief examples of how he sees this working in practice.

    > Things here are quiet, aside from a current resolution condemning the death of PM Bhutto. I am currently ambivalent, as I wonder if the LOSS could not be doing better things with its time.

Personally, I have a horror of cheap "condemnation" resolutions - even in the politics of larger nations. Since you would have to be a sociopath (or someone with a much bigger emotional investment in Pakistani politics than I have) to approve of this assassination, the purpose of such condemnation resolutions seem to function in the same sense of a McCarthy era "loyalty oath" - that is, you're judged on the quickness and apparent sincerity of your expression of a certain "compulsory" opinion. I would prefer to see the Talossan Republic abstain from all similar motions on principle, although of course I disapprove of political murder for anyone but active warmongers.

    Esteemed Ministers,

An example I can think of, off the top of my head, is that Nation A wishes to revamp its website... while nation B is blessed with a great deal of people with some talent in this area. The LOSS can then help to make the connection between A and B.

Or perhaps a nation wants to rewrite its constitution but would like a little help from a more seasoned lawsmith, or perhaps revamp their image overall.

Do I forsee things being particularly lopsided in regards to those nations that request assistance and those that provide? Yes I do. At least for a while. I believe that things will move towards a more even keel over time.

    > I would prefer to see the Talossan Republic abstain from all similar motions on principle,

At the current time, abstention is my intention. I firmly believe that the LOSS has more important things to do (like try and put my plan into action) and, frankly, I quickly get tired of the email-clogging slew of condemnation statements.

Such statements should be reserved, if they are made at all, in the course of major events. The issuance of such at every turn, or incident, saps them of meaning.

If the cabinet is amenable, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs willing, it might be worth our time to draft a formal "Foreign Policy" for the Republic, akin to that used by Reuniao and Corvinia.

    Respectfully,

I for one am saddened to read that in Thailand the return to more democratic circumstances has been delayed by the death of a royal highness, and to hear that Kenya, one of the few stable democracies in Africa, is burning after a botched presidential election. I don't think it makes sense to let our government decide on which critical international event deserves a "PD statement" more than any other; although if we as individuals want to discuss inter(macro)national politics, we all know how to post a rant on Wittenberg X.

    Suggestions?

I doubt there'd be any delay if the people who the military junta approved of had won the elections.

Yeah, I think this just opens the door for huge fights about nothing. However, such things were actually the lifeblood of a lot of old Kingdom politics - they could feud for weeks over whether to condemn Iceland over whaling, for example.

I know my ill-guided PD over Sen. Thurmond's death gave a lot of gristle to a lot of people. :-O
