As per the request of the Prime Minister, I have made initial contact with the Secretary General of the LOSS and inquired about Republican membership. Pursuant to this, I compile the following report regarding the LOSS, complete with my own recommendations.
PROJECT: KERUX
I.) OFFICIAL PROCEDURE FOR ADMITTANCE
The procedure for admittance to the LOSS is quite simple. All we must do is write the Secretary General with a formal request containing the following information: A.) The Full, Formal Name of our Nation, B.) Our Website's URL, C.) The Name and Email of our Potential Delegate. The Assembly would then have 2 weeks to debate and vote on our membership.
This differs from the older procedure where prospectives were required to be sponsored by another member state. Amador, come to think of it, was sponsored by Choconya. There were also certain age/activity requirements that had to be passed, last I knew, but the Secretary General made no mention of these. Of course,he might have found it to be unneccesary, given that Talossa was signatory to the foundational treaty.
II.) A RECOMMENDATION FROM THE SECRETARY GENERAL
Mr. James E. Bentz, the LOSS Secretary General, did inform me that there were some LOSS members who had an unfavourable opinion of Talossa, most particularly the Kingdom, and that this might be a detriment to our admission. He recommended that we also include a dispatch that worked to outline the political changes between the Republic and Regipats, and how we are different.
Unfortunately, our predecessor in the LOSS, Mr. Dabrowski of the Regipats (Prior to the Semi-Permeable Wall Act), and the deprecatory and isolationst attitudes of the Kingdom, particularly "micronational apartheid," left a bad taste in some mouths. Also, our own lack of strong, formal, foreign engagement to this point has not helped. Anyhow, though this, in some ways, amounts to an additional (if unofficial an informal) requirement, I think it would be worth our while to do it.
III.) RECENT LOSS ACTIVITY
Under SG Bentz's tenure, the LOSS has experienced something of a resurgence. It is in the process of rewriting its charter, having just voted on the various changes to be made, and are putting them all in place for consideration as a whole document.
They are also working on a new website. They voted to do so, but are trying to find someone skilled enough to design a "tasteful and functional" site. Perhaps we could offer to help as a gesture of good faith?
Also, they have worked towards the reduction in the number of YAMOs and conducted a merger with the SPUM and LOM, under the LOSS banner. Such action not only cuts down on work for nations with permanent missions to each, but also increases the number of total nations we would be in contact with.
IV.) MY OWN RECOMMENDATIONS
I still think that this project is worthwhile, it is a part of our heritage and would help get us talking with the rest of the micronational world. We have much to offer them, and they much to offer us.
And further, this would help (I feel) to resurrect an older, more open Talossa. A nation where young men once signed a great treaty devoted to a world of 100,000,000,000 nations. We aren't the Regipats, holed up behind our borders and refusing to play. Talossa is fun, and usd to lead the micronational world in the export thereof. The fact that Talossa met in person from time to time, and did such crazy things, completely boggled my 14-year-old Amadoran mind. We used to the "the big leagues" and now we're seen as bitter and somewhat vulgar. Lets work on turning back the clock in at least one respect.
However, I do not think that League membership should run the be-all end-all, and instead would should consider the drafting of a formal diplomatic policy and work towards direct relations with our micronational brethren. I believe it should be rooted in the Penguinean "If you exist, you exist" concept at the core, but can move forward from this point. Many initially get involved in micronationalism because of diplomacy and wind up staying because of internal activity.
V.) ADDENDUM
I have further requested from the Secretary General, given the lack of a current information clearinghouse on the League, to not only keep me informed as to charter developments, but also for a list of memberstates. I will file additional addenda to the cabinet upon reciept and analysis.
---------------END REPORT---------------
Sincerely:
