Vitz Açafat Group: DELETED (188 posts total) (last post: May 12, 2007 - 17:53) | I think it is appropriate if we have a discussion here about the spelling reforms being proposed in the Kingdom. At first it appeared that these reforms were going to be accepted there unanimously, but today I notice a few threads taking a contrary opinion. Once a 'federation' is in place, I hope the CUG will also ask our opinion. So what do we think?
I, personally, am against it. We want Talossan to be a real language, and real languages don't generally have such wholesale changes (except German, sorry Deets). S:reu Woolley makes the point that the diacritics are sometimes just tacked on, serving no purpose other than giving the youthful founders of the language a giggle, and I think he is probably right. But, as is pointed out elsewhere, this is the language we have inherited, for better or worse. I would prefer for changes to happen slowly and naturally.
Perhaps I've been living in England too long. Here changes are generally avoided until it is impossible to avoid them any further (for an example, please see our House of Lords, which just now seems to be about to chuck out the remaining hereditary peers). I am not English, but I think this is the attitude we should take.
What do you all think?
